Mentorship

The mission of the Mentorship Program is to foster professional growth, enhance clinical skills, and build a supportive community for social workers at all stages of their careers.

The Mentorship Program is yet another benefit of Membership in the NCSCSW.

Why Be A Part Of The Mentorship Program?

The NCSCSW Mentorship Program connects experienced social workers with those who are new to the field or looking to advance their careers. Our program offers a unique opportunity to gain valuable insights, receive guidance, and develop meaningful professional relationships.

Whether you are a mentor or a mentee, participating in our program can help you:

  • Enhance Professional Development
Gain knowledge and skills from seasoned professionals.
  • Expand Your Network
Build connections with colleagues across the state.
  • Receive Support and Guidance
Navigate the challenges of clinical practice with the help of experienced mentors.
  • Achieve Your Goals
Set and achieve personal and professional objectives.

How Does The Program Work?

Our mentorship program is designed to be flexible and tailored to meet the needs of both mentors and mentees. Here’s how it works:

  • Application Process
Interested mentors and mentees complete a brief application form to help us understand your goals, interests, and areas of expertise.
  • Matching
We carefully match mentors and mentees based on their profiles to ensure a productive and supportive relationship.
  • Commitment
Mentors and mentees commit to regular meetings over a specified period, typically six months to one year. Meetings can be held in person, via phone, or online, depending on your preference.
  • Support and Resources
NCSCSW provides resources and support to help mentors and mentees make the most of their partnership. This includes guidelines, training materials, and ongoing assistance from our program coordinators.
  • Evaluation
At the end of the mentorship period, participants are encouraged to provide feedback to help us continually improve the program.

Why Become a mentor?

The mentor-protégé relationship will primarily focus on career goals, and not be a supervisory relationship. Mentors are interested in the growth and development of their protégé; eager to share knowledge and expertise, as well as provide support. As a benefit for serving as a mentor, you will:

  • Make a meaningful impact on the career development of a fellow social worker.
  • Gain fresh perspectives and insights from your mentee.
  • Enhance your leadership and communication skills.
  • Give back to the social work community.
  • Plus, receive a Mentorship recognition certificate/reward, get $50 off a NCSCSW event or conference, and gain recognition at the NCSCSW ethics conference and at the event or conference immediately following the completion of the 12-month mentorship commitment.

Why Become a MENTEE?

If you are a social worker seeking guidance and support, becoming a mentee can provide you with the tools and resources you need to succeed. As a mentee, you will benefit from:

  • Personalized advice and mentorship from an experienced professional.
  • Opportunities to develop new skills and knowledge.
  • Support in achieving your career goals.
  • Building a lasting professional relationship.
